Grandpa In My Pocket
created by Mellie Buse and Jan Page

Nominated by Jocelyn Stevenson: Creative Director, TT Animation

Grandpa In My Pocket is an example of excellence in children’s television. It’s a new series for Cbeebies, launching in 2009, which explores the hugely important relationship between grandchildren and grandparents by turning it on its head. Jason and Grandpa’s adventures will be fantastical, touching and bizarre – but always hilariously funny.

The programme combines excellent writing with high-quality production design and outstanding performances – all in the service of a comedy drama for 4-7 year-old children.

“The creators, who are an independent company and not part of the BBC, also wrote and produced the series. They were involved in all aspects of the production, including putting together the financing, and were able to make the modest budget go a long way, thanks to their creativity, vision and sheer bloody-mindedness.” Jocelyn Stevenson
