What is the TA?

The TA is an essential element of the British Armed Forces. It forms one quarter of the British Army, playing the vital dual role of reinforcing the Regular Army and serving local communities in times of need. And it is the chance for thousands of civilians to satisfy their need for a challenging new experience.

The Territorial Army is that part of the British Army staffed on a paid voluntary basis by part-time personnel - everyday people with the drive to devote some of their spare time to an extremely important organisation.

In joining the TA you will have access to an exciting range of opportunities:

  • To develop your existing skills while learning new ones
  • To push yourself to achieve things you never thought possible
  • To play a fundamental role in fulfilling the Army's commitment to defensive, humanitarian and peacekeeping operations in the UK and worldwide.

Please take the time to explore this website and order our TA Guide  DVD-ROM to find out more about what the TA is and how you can form an important part of what it stands for.
