RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

Elliot Morley, Minister for the Environment wrote to Professor Charles Curtis OBE, Chair of RWMAC on 17 March 2004 setting out the Government's decision concerning the future of RWMAC. Copies of the correspondence, and an accompanying Written Ministerial Statement, are available on this site.

RWMAC response to Government consultation on modernising policy for decommissioning UK nuclear facilities (19 April 2004)

The Radioactive Waste Management Advisory Committee (RWMAC) was established in 1978 to offer independent advice to Ministers on radioactive waste management issues. Members of the Committee have been drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and specialisms including radioactive waste management, radiological protection, earth sciences, environmental law & planning, medical physics and social sciences.

Each year RWMAC has undertaken a programme of work commissioned by Government Ministers, it has also responded to consultations on relevant issues and has maintained an active interest in all aspects of radioactive waste management activities undertaken by UK nuclear site operators and other users of radioactive materials. RWMAC's advice to Ministers is published, either in individual reports or in the context of the RWMAC Annual Report.
