"We will invest £3.7 bn in defence over the next three years. For the Army this will enable us to fund its transformation into a force which is structured and equipped to meet the demands of multiple, concurrent operations across the full spectrum of tasks. This implies a shiftfrom the current Light - Heavy structure to a better balance of Light - Medium - Heavy Forces."

Rt Hon Geoff Hoon
Secretary of State

Future Army Structures (FAS) has been developed to rebalance the Army to better meet the the more likely demands of the future land operating environment whilst retaining our core warfighting ethos. On this web-page are the detailed announcements of July 2004 by the Secretary of State and CGS which set out the structures, principles and assumtions which underpin FAS. A small team has been set up in the MoD to co-ordinate how FAS is to be delivered over the coming years. Restructuring the Army is a complex business, especially given the nature of ongoing operations. The Implementation Plan will, therefore, be sensitive to the demands placed on the Army today. The plan will be finalised in December 2004 at which time more detailed information will be announced and available on this web-page.
