1 November 2004

The official AAPS base area penalties for 2004 have been calculated. The areas receiving payment this year will be scaled back as follows:

  • Maize, and supporting obligatory set-aside where applicable - to 33·16% of the eligible area
  • All other crops and set-aside - to 99·69% of the eligible area.

The percentages which applied in 2003 were 31.80% and 99.34%.

These reductions will apply to the payments under AAPS which are due to start on 16 November.

They will not apply to the Protein Crop Premium and the Aid for Energy Crops which will be paid from 1 December under the legislation for the new Single Payment Scheme. These new payments could be reduced if the EC's Maximum Guaranteed Areas have been exceeded. Further information on this is expected later in November.
