DELIVERING AID TO SUDAN AND POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT TO IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN
Foreign Office Minister Baroness Symons has spoken about Afghanistan, Iraq and Sudan in an interview for BBC Radio 4 on 1 August. She said progress in Afghanistan and Iraq had to be viewed over the long term, rather than judging the decisions to intervene by the current situation in the countries. 'There is a big picture and that big picture, whilst it is still very, very difficult in terms of security, is nonetheless the prospect of a better life in the future. The key to this has to always be political development', she said. On Sudan, Baroness Symons said the crucial challenge 'is to get the humanitarian aid in to Sudan and, of course, to control what has been happening with the assaults on the civilian population'.
