Global Dimension is a unique website for teachers. A helpful guide to books, videos, posters and websites which bring a global dimension to teaching. From climate change to poverty, water to fair trade, you can find resources for all age groups and subject areas. The site also includes other features which will help you develop a global dimension within your school curriculum, such as teaching ideas, curriculum information and contact details for local centres and school speaker services. 

By including the global dimension in teaching, links can easily be made between local and global issues, and young people are given the opportunity to:

• Critically examine their own values and attitudes;
• Appreciate the similarities between peoples everywhere, and value diversity;
• Understand the global context of their daily choices and local actions;
• Develop skills to help combat injustice, prejudice and discrimination.

In the About Us section, the What is the Global Dimension? page includes full details of the global dimension in the curricula of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. You can download detailed information, including a subject guide showing how the global dimension fits into every subject.

The left hand side of each web page enables you to 'browse resources' according to curriculum subject and topic. You can also browse through 'background material'.

The 'search resources' box on the right hand side of each page enables you to make a more specific search by including criteria such as age range and price.

The Community & Support section has details of organisations running regional training events, as well as a page with details of a range of professional development opportunities.

The Community & Support section provides a list of organisations offering school speaker services. The list includes information about whether the talks are free and what topics are covered, along with contact details.

Our Global Calendar highlights global events that you can celebrate within your school. The calendar also includes links to teaching resources.

DEA manages the Global Dimension Website with support from the UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID). The Global Dimension website currently gets around 25,000 visitors per month.

If you can’t find exactly what you are looking for on this website, there is a network of organisations called Development Education Centres (DECs), that work to support teachers in developing global perspectives. DECs offer services locally such as professional development, training, teacher networks, advice, global dimension library services, project work and in-school talks. Find your nearest DEC on the Local Support page.
