International Day for the Abolition of Slavery: 2 December

This day marks the anniversary of the United Nations adopting the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of Others, in 1949. Slavery still exists today, in a number of different forms, and over 1 million children are trafficked each year for cheap labour or sexual exploitation. Find out more on the United Nations website.

If you would like some ideas to help your pupils learn about slavery, past and present, you can read our articles about the Transatlantic Slave Trade or Child Labour. You can also search for teaching resources by choosing 'slavery' from the list of topics.
