FCO MINISTER CONDEMNS DETENTION OF SIX BURMESE DEMOCRACY ACTIVISTS (02/10/06)

The Foreign Office Minister responsible for Burma, Ian McCartney, said: 'I am appalled about the six pro-democracy activists detained last week. I call on the Burmese government to release the activists immediately.' He added: 'It is particularly disheartening that the Burmese authorities should continue to round-up pro-democracy activists just as the situation in that country is being discussed by the UN Security Council for the first time.'
