Tracing my family tree

Our family history section provides links to a number of resources for researching family history. This covers records held at The National Archives held at Kew, as well as what records are available elsewhere.

Some of our most popular family history resources are held at the Family Records Centre in Islington. Many of these are particularly relevant to tracing your family tree, including:

  • Indexes of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales since 1837
  • Indexes of adoptions in England and Wales since 1927
  • Indexes of births, marriages and deaths of some British citizens abroad since the late 18th century, including deaths in both World Wars
  • Miscellaneous foreign returns of births, death and marriages from 1627-1960

The Moving HereExternal website - link opens in a new window website provides information useful to those with ancestors from overseas.
