The role of the Healthcare Commission
It's not just you who gets a check up. The Healthcare Commission is the health watchdog in England. It’s our job to check that healthcare services are meeting standards in a range of areas, including safety, cleanliness and waiting times. We have a statutory duty to assess the performance of healthcare organisations, award annual performance ratings for the NHS and coordinate reviews of healthcare by others. Through this site, you can find out more about what we do and how we help to make a difference to patients and the public.
Rating your local healthcare organisations
On October 12th 2006, we published the results of our annual health check – the most comprehensive assessment ever of the NHS in England. Each NHS trust was given a rating, based on the quality of their services and how well they managed their finances. Now, for the first time, you can search the ratings to find out how your local healthcare organisations are doing and get answers to some of the questions commonly asked by patients and the public.
