The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is the Government's most senior nursing adviser. The CNO has responsibility for delivering the Government's strategy for nursing, Making a Difference, and leads nearly 600,000 nurses, midwives and health visitors and allied health professionals.

Invitation to bid: DH/DfES health led parenting support demonstration sites. PCTs and Local Authorities are invited to make a joint application to become a demonstration site for the DH/DfES health led parenting support programme for at risk families. Additional funding is being provided to test a programme of intensive home visiting delivered by midwives and health visitors. The sites are being set up as part of the social exclusion action plan ‘Reaching Out: An Action Plan on Social Exclusion’ launched in September 2006. Further background information and an application pack can be found at the link below. Local Authorities and PCTs are asked to submit joint bids by 15 December 2006. Successful applicants will be notified by mid January 2007.
