Don't forget
The Home Office will begin issuing identity cards for foreign nationals from 25 November 2008. The cards will be issued to non-EEA nationals who are granted further leave to remain under the student and marriage/civil partnership categories of the new points-based immigration system.

The Department of Health, the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice are consulting on the review of their No Secrets guidance on multi-agency policies and procedures to protect vulnerable adults from abuse. NHS Employers is seeking responses from NHS HR directors and anyone who has an interest and responsibility in safeguarding vulnerable people. Please respond by 16 January 2009.

Points-based system - launch date and transitional arrangements
The UK Border Agency has announced that Tiers 2 and 5 of the points-based immigration system will go live on 27 November 2008. Transitional arrangements for Tiers 2 and 5 explain what employers and individuals will need to do when they need to extend the stay of a non-EEA national. Employers need to be aware that applications for work permits posted after Tiers 2 and 5 are launched will not be accepted unless they are for a Bulgarian or Romanian national.

Occupational Health Smart Cards - invalid cards
Following the security update to the Occupational Health Smart Card (OHSC) system in June 2008, all OH Smart Cards that have not yet been presented for updating will have been invalidated or hot-listed by Monday 3 November 2008.
