Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson celebrates Sport Month, part of the Year of the Volunteer, with the unveiling of a plaque in tribute to the efforts of 10,000 volunteers who helped make the Manchester Games an outstanding success. The unveiling and a reunion of over 200 games volunteers took place at Games venue Sport City.

Geoff Hunter MBE, a former boxer from Bredbury,  Greater Manchester,  was a volunteer at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002. Geoff was chosen to join other volunteers at Sport City as Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson unveiled a plaque in tribute to the efforts and commitment of over 10,000 volunteers at the Games.


John and Bernard attended last Friday's reunion of Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games volunteers at which a plaque was unveiled by Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, in tribute to the work of over 10,000 volunteers at the Games. They were the oldest volunteers at the Manchester Games and say they are looking forward to the Olympics!


Young cheerleaders from RH Flames team in Manchester volunteered to entertain the guests at the sport month reunion for volunteers from the 2002 Commonwealth Games.


Smina Sadiq, a young volunteer at the Commonwealth Games, told Tanni Grey-Thompson and the audience at the Manchester volunteer reunion that helping at the Games had 'changed her life'.
