6 July 2007 - Updated Government response to the Independent review of avian quarantine PDF Document (46 KB) has been published.

1 July 2007 - Information regarding the approval of an avian quarantine facility or centre is available on the Animal Health website. The Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export) (England) (Laboratories, Circuses and Avian Quarantine) Regulations 2007 (Link to the OPSI website) come into force on the 1 July 2007.

6 July 2006 - Consultation: Consultation and regulatory impact assessment on the veterinary regulation of quarantine of captive birds from outside the EU, and full cost recovery.

4 July 2006 - The EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCoFCAH) today voted to extend the EU ban on imports of captive birds (non-poultry) from outside the EU until 31 December 2006.

15 June 2006 - The EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCoFCAH) will vote on the future of the captive bird import ban at its next meeting on 3-4 July.

4 May 2006 - The EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCoFCAH) today voted to extend the EU ban on imports of captive birds (non-poultry) from outside the EU until 31 July 2006. We expect a further vote on 15/16 June 2006. This ban has been in place since October 2005, with limited exceptions for zoo birds and emergency rules in place for pet birds.
