International disease monitoring - RVC review of qualitative risk assessments

1. We asked risk analysis experts at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) to review our approach to qualitative risk assessment. We do these after being notified of an animal disease outbreak in another country which may present a threat to the UK.

2. The RVC report Adobe acrobat pdf file (42 KB) was finalised in November 2004 and contains many useful suggestions. We have incorporated some of these into a new explanation of our methodology. Others are being progressively introduced to new risk assessments as they are developed.

3. We have decided not to produce two versions of our documents – one for the scientist and one for the general reader – because we aspire to produce a single text which is accessible to a broad audience.
