Defra’s proposals for the new local government performance framework
The Local Government White Paper (published in October 2006) set out a new performance framework for local government. The backbone of the new framework will be 198 indicators covering all Government’s priorities for local delivery. Local Government will be required to report their performance against these indicators from April 2008.
Defra sought views on our proposed indicators for the new performance framework in August. Several of the indicators we proposed are completely new. Through taking soundings from stakeholders with relevant policy expertise and on-the-ground experience, we hope to have ensured that our proposals are appropriate, well-defined and capable of producing reliable data.
Thank you very much to all those who responded, your feedback has been invaluable in helping shape Defra’s performance indicators. More details on how each indicator has been developed can be found in these pages.
Hazel Blears announced the headline definitions on Thursday 11 October 2007. Communities and Local Government are carrying out a consultation on the technical definitions of the indicators giving stakeholders an opportunity to give views on the methodology, frequency of reporting and data source of each indicator.
