Climate Change Champions 2008

Climate Change Champions 2008 DEFRA has been looking for nine Climate Change Champions, aged between 11 and 18, to represent their regions and England as a whole on the issue since September and we have had hundreds of entries – ranging from videos, songs, t-shirts, presentations, posters, sculptures, books, and even websites!

The competition has now closed and we'll soon be holding semi-finals in January, before announcing the winning nine Champions at an event in London on 20 February 2008.

Footprint Friends

Once they have been announced, the Champions are going to be hosted on www.footprintfriends.com – a brilliant website that is dedicated to young people across the world who are interested in the environment and acting on climate change.

Our Champions are going to be posting photos, writing blogs and answering questions in the online forums, so that's the place to find out what the Champions have been up to. You can view their dedicated page on the website at: www.footprintfriends.com/climatechampions.

I entered the competition – what happens next?

If you entered the competition, here's what happens next:

  • You will be told whether you have been selected to come to the semi-finals on Monday 7 January.
  • The semi finals will take place on Friday 18 January and Saturday 19 January. If you are a semi-finalist you will be brought to London on one of those days, along with a parent/guardian or teacher of your choice to do a short interview (don't worry, the judges are all very friendly!).
  • The winning nine Champions will be informed on Wednesday 23 January. If you are a winner you will be contacted and told more about your prize and what happens next…
  • The new nine Climate Change Champions will be officially announced in London on Wednesday  20  February.
  • The European expedition will take place between Thursday 21 February and Sunday 24 February.
