The Royal Welsh formed on 1 March 2006 from the three Welsh Infantry battalions of the Prince of Wales's Division; The Royal Welch Fusiliers, The Royal Regiment Wales and The Royal Welsh Regiment (TA).  Wales's first large regiment draws on men from the whole of Wales for recruitment providing a unique opportunity for Welshmen to serve in a variety of infantry roles with other Welshmen.

1 R WELSH - 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh (The Royal Welch Fusiliers) - is a light battalion currently serving in Cyprus, with companies rotating between duties guading key points between the Turkish and Greek Cypriot zones, training and providing security for the Falkland Islands and as hot weather reserve forces for Iraq and Afghanistan.  In 2008 the battalion will move to Chester to establish its home base.

2 R WELSH - 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh (The Royal Regiment of Wales) - is an armoured infantry battalinon equipped with the famous WARRIOR AFV and based at Tidworth on Salisbury Plain.  2 R WELSH occupy one of the Army's most modern Barracks.

3 R WELSH - 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh - is the new regiment's Territorial Army (TA) battalion .  Its Headquarters is at Maindy Barracks Cardiff and has company locations at Swansea, Pontypridd, Aberystwyth, Wrexham and Colwyn Bay.  Many soldiers from these companies have served in support of the two regular battalions on operations world wide.

The Battalions have wide and diverse roles from Light Role highly mobile forces to the Armoured Infantry role with Warrior APC's and of course the TA battalion in Wales.

In addition to the two regular and one TA battalion The Royal Welsh has affiliation with Cadet Battalions of the CCF and ACF thooughout Wales; Clwyd ACF (4th Cadet Battalion The Royal Welsh), GlamorganCountiesACF (5th Cadet Battalion The Royal Welsh), Gwynedd ACF (6th Cadet Battalon The Royal Welsh), Gwent ACF (7th Cadet Battalion The Royal Welsh).

RECRUITING 

There has never been a better time to join The Royal Welsh and become part of a modern large infantry regiment in the Light and Armoured Roles as one of the Welsh Battalions of The Prince Of Wales Division. The Regiment has a history of more than three hundred years linked to its famous antecendent regiments; The Royal Welch Fusiliers (23rd), The South Wales Borderers (24th) and Welch Regiment (41st /69th).   In 1969 SWB and WELCH amalgamated to form The Royal Regiment of Wales (24th 41st). 

 

On offer is a challenging, exciting and rewarding life style that is well paid with a structured career that will enable you to gain promotion, along with extra pay benefits. This means more money in your pocket with, free medical and dental service. Each soldier is entitled to 30 day’s paid leave (6 week’s) a year. In addition, extra leave is given both before and after operations and exercises. Whilst away on exercise or operations you will have access to many Welfare Benefits including, Internet access and telephone access.

 

Opportunities to travel and see the world are endless. The Regiment occupies some of the Army’s newest accommodation in the UK. There are around 600 soldiers in each Regular Battalion living in one-man en-suite modern rooms. The atmosphere in the Battalions is both friendly and relaxing you will soon make friends that will last a lifetime. On our camps we have our own post office, church, Rugby club and Bars, Gymnasium, Mini super market and the married personnel are housed by the Army near to the unit locations when possible. You will of course have to pay rent and the normal utilities bills.
