FOREIGN SECRETARY TO VISIT JAMAICA AND THE US (17/10/05)

The Foreign Secretary will visit Jamaica on 19 and 20 October - his first visit to the island. This will provide an opportunity for the Foreign Secretary to stress the UK's continuing commitment to working with Jamaica to help combat drugs, crime and illegal immigration. In addition to meetings with Jamaican ministers, Mr Straw will visit the UK-funded Caribbean Senior Command Training Course and community projects around Kingston.

The Foreign Secretary will be in the US from 20 - 23 October. He will be visiting Alabama at the invitation of US Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice, where they will discuss the full range of foreign policy issues facing the UK and the US. The Foreign Secretary and Dr Rice will deliver speeches at the Civil Rights Institute on 21 October. They will also attend a church service and meet local citizens involved in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
