An FCO Spokesperson described Argentina's decision to withdraw from the Joint Declaration on Co-operation over Offshore Activities in the South West Atlantic as 'a backward step'. A statement read on 29 March: 'The declaration was designed to enable co-operation on practical issues of mutual benefit in the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources. The Argentine action will make any future co-operation in this area more difficult.'

Delegations from BVI and the UK met in London on 26–28 February for the fourth round of talks on constitutional review for BVI.

Lord Triesman, Overseas Territories Minister, hosted the eighth meeting of the Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC) on 21 and 22 November at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The Premiers, Chief Ministers and equivalent senior politicians from Britain's Overseas Territories, except Gibraltar, attended.

FCO Minister, Lord Triesman, will be hosting the eighth meeting of the Overseas Territories Consultative Council commencing on Tuesday 21 November, at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The event will be attended by the Premiers, Chief Ministers and equivalent senior politicians from Britain's Overseas Territories. The Council is held annually in London and provides a forum for consultation with British Government Ministers.

The Privy Council dismissed the appeals of six Pitcairn Islanders against their convictions for child rape and indecent assault, on Monday 30 October. The decision follows a lengthy investigation and legal battle. Lord Triesman, FCO Minister responsible for the Overseas Territories said: 'Despite the difficulties of prosecuting serious crimes such as these in such a remote location it is important that child sex offenders are dealt with by the courts. The decision today opens the way for this remote community to move forward.'

In a speech on Monday 24 April, in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), FCO Minister, Lord Triesman, said: 'Seven years on from the White Paper, this is a good moment to take stock of the relationship between the UK and the Overseas Territories... In TCI, the tourism, construction, and real estate sectors are at the forefront of strong, territory-wide growth.' The Minister went on to say: 'The relationship between the UK and the Overseas Territories is in good shape. A successful future - for the sake of future generations we must ensure that that is our goal.'

Lord Triesman, the FCO Minister for the Overseas Territories, will make a speech in the Turks and Caicos Islands on 24 April, taking stock of the relationship between the UK and the territories. He will indicate that, as partners in the relationship, both the UK and the territories can look back with pride on what has been achieved, including in the economic sphere.
