The Chief Dental Officer, Barry Cockcroft is the Government’s most senior dental advisor for England and the professional head of dental staff in England.

The Department is working closely with NHS Connecting for Health, to ensure that dentistry is completely integrated within the National Programme for IT, thereby giving dental practices and community clinics access to all its benefits.
CDO letters are the main way in which the Chief Dental Officer communicates with dentists and their teams. They are issued to inform dentists of policy changes and to advise on key issues of the day in terms of the practice of dentistry in England. They are issued as appropriate.
