The Sustainable Development Commission and DfES have developed a Sustainable School Self-evaluation tool - s3 - that links sustainable development to the areas of school improvement measured by Ofsted.
By operating as good corporate citizens NHS organisations can benefit from a healthier local population, improved staff morale and faster patient recovery rates. They may also make big financial savings.
Choosing Health: making healthy choices easier identifies good corporate citizenship as one of the five new priorities for the next ten years.
This self-assessment model will help your organisation to identify and assess your contribution to good corporate citizenship and give you ideas for future action. It builds on and pulls together guidance and resources to help you get going in six key areas: transport, procurement, facilities management, employment & skills, community engagement and new buildings. It shows in practical ways how the NHS has contributed to health and sustainable development, with real life examples of how it has contributed in areas such as local regeneration, healthy sustainable procurement and helping to tackle climate change. You can use it to engage with your employees and the local community.
Register online and take the test to see how you are doing in comparison to other NHS organisations. Store your score and return to the website at a later date to track your progress.
Using this assessment model can help your organisation become a good corporate citizen.
