Southern Region Drought Plan

Dry weather can put an immense pressure on our valuable water resources. We work with water companies and other organisations to secure public water supplies and ensure long-term protection of the environment. Each Environment Agency region has a drought plan in place that sets out how we plan for and manage drought.

Our plan aims to provide a structured and flexible framework to deal with droughts of different types and severity and sets out a system of monitoring and reporting to identify and track the onset and progress of drought.

Our Southern plan outlines:

The Environment Agency has a national drought plan that covers England and Wales, and also area drought plans that outline local issues.
