Sustainable Procurement in Construction - 5 June, 2008
Every professional working in the construction industry must grasp the environmental and social consequences of choice. Choosing materials and products, selecting supply chain partners, the way we design our buildings – should be undertaken with a view to achieving the best whole-life value – not the lowest cost.
It is no longer acceptable to procure on the basis of a single bottom line. The time has come for clients, architects, contractors, and the entire supply chain to co-ordinate a triple bottom line approach: people, planet, profit.
To help position your sustainable procurement strategy, Construction News is delighted to host the Sustainable Procurement in Construction conference. This forward thinking day will harness opinion from some of the very best in industry.
Why you can’t miss it:
Hear how leading contractors are already integrating their supply and establishing a clear chain of custody in order to source ethically
Understand how Clients and Local Authorities intend to support sustainable procurement – what do you need to demonstrate to win tenders?

Energy & Environmental 2008 - 17 June, 2008
With the impact of Climate Change ever prominent in both the UK and worldwide, with increasingly erratic weather patterns and rapidly evolving environmental conditions, there is a renewed urgency to resolve outstanding issues surrounding key targets in order to reduce the effects of rapid global industry expansion and the supply and demand needs of consumers.
This premier national conference will highlight the key strategies that aim to redress the current imbalance across policy and practice in the UK and to concentrate on those areas where we can make a difference. Targeting key strategists from across both the public and private sectors, Energy and Environment 2008 will provide a forum for discussion and a platform for sharing best practice, formulating new agendas and debating future requirements. Creating the Future - 20 June, 2008
A KnowledgeEast event, co-hosted by UrbanBuzz and London Centre for Arts and Cultural Enterprise (LCACE) as part of the Building Cultures series
London is known as a leading international centre of creativity. Across the UK creative industries and practices are recognised as important contributors both to the interest and attractiveness of a place and to the local economy.
The Thames Gateway is Europe’s largest regeneration programme. Cultural and creative ‘place making’ strategies are being developed to attract new entrants to the region, often to invent a new identity for the area. In addition, many new developments claim to be designed to meet the demand for homes and workspaces that individuals and businesses in creative and linked technology sectors require.
However, questions remain over how new developments in the Thames Gateway will provide for the new economies, taking account of how people will live and work together in the future, so that both ‘old’ and ‘new’ communities benefit.
This event asks leading academics, development organisations and creative industry representatives to engage with these thorny issues to discuss how they are, or how they plan to, create a vibrant and sustainable future for the Thames Gateway through inclusion of creative practitioners.
