Help - online flood warning service

The Environment Agency's online Flood Warning Service shows the current Flood Warning situation throughout England and Wales. It is automatically updated every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service can be reached by clicking on 'Current Flood warnings in force' on the left of this page. Please note that during times of especially high demand, a cut down emergency system operates which is less interactive.

Level of service
The service currently covers designated Flood Warning Areas in England and Wales. In these areas, we are able to provide a full Flood Warning Service using the following codes - Flood Watch, Flood Warning, Severe Flood Warning and All Clear.

• To find out what these codes mean, click on 'Flood warning codes' on the left. Alternatively, click on any Flood Warning symbol within the flood warning service
• For Flood Warning information in Scotland, follow the link to the 'Scotland - river levels'

The service is available in both English and Welsh. You can swap between languages using the button near the top left corner of the screen.

Using the service
Follow the link to the 'Current Flood warnings in force' under 'See also' on the left of this page. This will take you to a National Summary. This provides an overview of the number and type of flood warnings in force in each of the Environment Agency's regions. (If you are unsure which region you want, follow the link to 'Regional descriptions' on the left of this page.)

From the National Summary page you can gain further information by:

• Clicking on a red number and status code in the table – this will take you to a list of Flood Warning Areas whose Flood Warning status and region match the entry you selected from the table (e.g. areas with the status 'All Clear' in Thames region).
• Clicking on the name of a region at the foot of the page - this will take you to a list of all the Flood Warning Areas in that region, regardless of whether they have a warning in force. They are listed alphabetically, but the most severe warnings are always listed first.
• Performing a search - there is a search facility in the right hand column of the National Summary. For help with searching, follow the link 'Flood warning searches' on the left of this page.

Underneath the heading National Summary you will also see the words 'Page last updated'. This shows you when the information was last revised. Remember to refresh the page in your browser to ensure you view the latest information.

Information available
When you perform a search, or click an entry in the National Summary table, the system will display a list of Flood Warning Areas if more than one area matches your choice. This list shows the Flood Warning status and time that the warning was received for each area.

You can display further information for any area by clicking on its name in the list. By doing this, you may find the following additional types of information for that specific area:

• Location - a short description of extent of the area
• Floodline - a paragraph about this Environment Agency service, including the quick dial number(s) for this area, which will make it easier for you to use Floodline if you want to
• View map of this Flood Warning area - a link to a map, showing the Flood Warning Area shaded purple over a map of England and Wales
• Region - the Environment Agency region within which the area lies
• Previous statuses: - details of the last five Flood Warning statuses for the area (this information may periodically be cleared from the system between flooding events)
• Updates on local radio and TV - details of local broadcasters who carry information about flooding
• Notes - additional information specific to the area
