RWMAC pictured meeting with Scottish Executive
Officials
during the September 2002 visit to Edinburgh
|
The arrangements for RWMAC membership as they stood at March 2004 were
as follows:
Appointments to RWMAC are made jointly by the Secretary of State for
Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Minister for Environment, Sport
and Culture in Scotland and the Minister for the Environment in Wales.
Members of RWMAC are appointed on an "ad hominem" basis on account of
their personal expertise and capabilities and thus ability to contribute
to the Committee's work, rather than as a representative of any particular
organisation or interest. This principle is strictly observed in the way
the Committee conducts its business, so that its independence is maintained.
RWMAC Members are expected to be able to make a significant contribution
to the Committee's work in the field for which they are appointed based
on appropriate qualifications and/or experience. They are expected to
have the ability also to identify and evaluate objectively differing views
of complex environmental and other issues relating to the management of
radioactive waste. There is one member appointed to provide a lay interest
viewpoint. Members are also expected to have good personal presentational
ability and to be willing and able to work within a committee structure.
The latest Code of Practice for RWMAC Members is included as Annex 5 of
the Committee's 20th Annual Report published in November 2000.
Anyone requiring further information or wishing to express an interest
in serving on RWMAC may contact the RWMAC Secretariat at:

Appointment to RWMAC follows the procedures laid down by the Commissioner
for Public Appointments. Appointments are competitive, subject to interview
and based on high acceptance standards. Appointments are made as and when
required under appropriate membership template (i.e. expertise) headings.
