Bovine TB: Independent Scientific Group on Cattle TB - Published data

Please note: the ISG has now closed.

Randomised Badger Culling Trial (RBCT) data

A large amount of data has already been made available by the ISG and Defra from the RBCT and associated research areas. This has been published in a number of scientific journals or at various locations on the internet. The range of data presently available is summarised here and can be accessed by the following links:

RBCT data audit

In November 2006, the RBCT database was subject to an audit on the quality and completeness of data collection (584 KB).

TB99 database

The TB99 study was a case control study aimed at establishing farm level risk factors associated with bovine TB (bTB). It spanned the period 1999 to 2004, although during that period the questionnaires were subject to revision. Both case and control farms were recruited from RBCT areas.

The data recorded for both the case and control farms included details of housing, environmental factors, farming practice, animal movements and local wildlife.

The TB99 data was subject to two data audits, in July 2004 (556 KB) and July 2005 (82 KB).

Case control Study 2005 (CCS05) database

The CCS05 study was similar to TB99 in that it aimed to establish herd-based risk factors associated with bTB and collected similar types of data. The major difference is that both the case and control farms were recruited from outside the RBCT areas.

The CCS05 study was also subject to a data audit in June 2006 (407 KB).

RBCT data to be made available at a future date

Data relating to the enrolment of farms into the RBCT and the extended post-mortem investigation that was carried out in badgers is currently being prepared for release and will be made available soon.

Enquiries about access to other data contained in these databases for research purposes only should be made to the VLA Weybridge at tb.datarequests@vla.defra.gsi.gov.uk.

Please note: that access to data is subject to the nature and complexity of the request, VLA staff resource available and the manner in which data are to be provided. The VLA may request payment to cover staff time involved with access to some of the data. Confidentiality restrictions will apply to its use and dissemination.
