What is social care?

Find out what 'social care' means and how it can help different people with different needs.

Social care

The term social care covers a huge variety of services.

These range from care homes and meals on wheels to drop-in centres for disabled people.

There are many different types of social care services available.

Social care includes community support such as care in your own home, meals and day services right through to care homes.

It also includes support for carers.

What about children's services?

Since April 2007, social care services for children have been monitored by Ofsted.

Does social care cover people’s health?

Although social care does not include medical care, many companies and organisations that provide social care services work alongside health services in providing nursing visits.
