On the move

Transport contributes to climate change because engines burn fuel and therefore produce carbon dioxide (CO2) every time you travel. You can easily reduce these emissions and save money by following the simple tips you'll find in the ‘On the move' section.

Top 10 fuel efficient cars in association with What Car?

ACT ON CO2 has teamed up with What Car? to rank new cars by CO2 emissions and fuel efficiency. Using What Car?'s car classification system (supermini, small family, executive and so on), you can find the 10 lowest CO2 emitters in each category.

The aim of this ranking system is not to recommend specific models but to provide information that can help you make an informed decision. You can refine your search by fuel and gearbox types, and to make life even simpler, each entry is colour-coded to reflect the Fuel Economy Label (which is much like the one you get on fridges and washing machines).

Can't find the car you're looking for?

CO2 emissions information for all new cars is available on the Vehicle Certification Agency website.

The data in these tables was compiled by the Vehicle Certification Agency, an Executive Agency of the Department for Transport. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that the information contained in the tables is accurate, neither the Vehicle Certification Agency nor the Department for Transport can accept liability for its accuracy. Users who rely on the information do so entirely at their own risk.

If you have questions about the rankings, please contact us.
