Work in Progress: DFID’s assistance to Malawi

Study Outline

The Department for International Development (DFID) has spent nearly £400 million over the last five years in Malawi. This study will report on the extent to which DFID has achieved what it set out to in Malawi, examining reasons for success or reduced performance.

The NAO has traditionally examined cross-cutting DFID themes, such as Budget Support or Operations in Insecure Environments, in multiple countries. By looking holistically at the range of DFID activity in a single country this study will assess how well a decentralised DFID operation targets its resources to have the greatest impact, and how far it tailors its approach to local circumstances.

Publication Schedule

The report aims to publish in Autumn 2009.
