March 2000 saw the racist murder of a prisoner, Zahid Mubarek, by his cellmate in Feltham Young Offenders Institution. An investigation followed and the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) published a report in December 2003 on racial equality in prisons. Five years on, NOMS has completed a review examining what progress has been made in addressing the failures.
Rostering gets a revamp Rostering gets a revamp
Prison staff are giving the thumbs-up to a new electronic rostering system rolling out across the estate this year. PSN met implementation lead Clive Broom to find out how the system will simplify all aspects of rostering in establishments.
