The 1st Battalion (1 LANCS for short) is a mechanised Infantry battalion (600 men and women) of the Regular Army, stationed with its families in Somme Barracks, Catterick. 1 LANCS is equipped with Bulldog Armoured Personnel Carriers. In 2007-8 it carried out a successful operational tour in Basrah, Iraq.

The Battalion supports the Regular Army, both at home and abroad. The battalion has been involved in operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and United Nations peacekeeping in Cyprus. The battalion provides assistance to civil authorities in times of crisis, such as floods and other disasters.
The Regimental Band
We have a fine Territorial Army Band based in Liverpool. Made up of part-time Territorial Army musicians, the Band plays at prestigious military events throughout the North West and frequently elsewhere, including at overseas venues from time to time.
The Regimental Family
We are very proud of the many Cadet detachments and contingents, Regimental Association branches, and affiliated ships and regiments that make up the rest of the family of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.
