RLC Territorial Army
If you are thinking about joining the RLC as a part-time Territorial you will need to consider what you want from the part-time career.
You will also need to consider the type of unit you might wish to join. You can join a Regional RLC Unit locally or join a nationally recruited unit based in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Both offer different things and have different terms and conditions.
All Territorials sign for an initial 12 year engagement on enlistment although you may apply to leave at any time after enlistment.
The annual minimum training commitment for National Territorials is 19 days; normally two weekends and a 15 day training event, which could be a camp in the UK or overseas, or a course.
It's always possible to do more than the minimum however, and as the basic military skills training package takes 27 days, we prefer it if our soldiers undertake this number of days in their first year.
This enables you to qualify for a tax-free bounty payment in year one and to begin your trade training at the start of year two.
REGIONAL AND NATIONAL
Regional Territorials are recruited locally and complete a minimum of 27 days training a year.
Natinal Territorials are recruited across the UK and due to their specific role complete 19 days per year.
