The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) with the support of The World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is organizing a three-day conference from 6-8 December 2009 on the theme Rethinking African Economic Policy in Light of the Global Economic and Financial Crisis.
The purpose of the conference is to bring together African and international economists and policymakers to address how the economic policies adopted over the last three decades should be reconsidered in the light of the global economic and financial crisis. Among the questions addressed are whether African governments should rethink policies of privatization and fiscal austerity, and what the appropriate role of the African state is in economic management in the wake of the crisis
