£20m cuts announced in 'in-year savings measures' are reinstated 29 October 2009

A decision has been made by the Prime Minister to reinstate £20m to the Defence programme to fund Territorial Army training for the remainder of the financial year.

This will enable training across the TA to return to the levels being achieved before the £20m savings measure was imposed.

The original decision to remove the funding was taken only with the utmost reluctance, as the least painful of a range of very difficult options, and in accordance with the priority to resource operations in Afghanistan - Defence's Main Effort.

The reversal of this savings measure is a very welcome outcome.
