Sports and expeditions
Being fit gives you more energy, and means you’re ready to spring into action when the pressure is on. It’s also a fantastic way to meet new people, build team spirit and hone your leadership skills.
Physical fitness is right at the heart of RAF life and everyone is expected to stay in shape. At home and on operations, that physical edge is vital in successfully meeting difficult and dangerous challenges.
Fitness first
Getting fit and staying fit – and having fun while you do – is easy, because in the RAF top-class facilities are available right on your doorstep. There is a vast range of sports to choose from – more than 45 different sports and over 100 adventurous activities.
We have teams and training facilities for everything from football to fencing. We also offer great support and sponsorship if you want to go right to the top of your game – whether it’s rugby or rowing. RAF personnel perform at every level, from marathon fun runners through to representing Great Britain at the Olympics or coaching/officiating our athletes.
All of our sport teams can apply to participate in overseas competitions, a great opportunity to make friends through sport. We’ve had teams competing in many countries, including China, Russia, South Africa and Australia – once you’re part of the team the opportunities really are endless.
If you’ve a passion for outdoor activities and wild experiences, adventurous training could be just the challenge you’re looking for. Our personnel do anything from scuba diving in the Red Sea, to climbing peaks in the Himalayas and kayaking the rivers of Canada.
