The Department for Transport has published a carbon reduction delivery plan which sets out how the Government aims to deliver on its earlier strategy - Low Carbon Transport: a Greener Future - which was published in July 2009. The Department has also published a climate change adaptation plan for transport setting out how the UK's transport system will be prepared to adapt to future climate change. The DfT's publications appear alonside similar documents from other major government departments. view more

Following the Budget, the Department for Transport has announced details of £30m Government funding through the Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) to support the introduction of greener buses, cleaner fuels and the introduction of ultra-low carbon vehicles. The announcement provides more details of spending which was originally committed in last year's Pre-Budget Report. view more

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced that the Government will set up a Green Investment Bank with a mandate to invest in low carbon infrastructure. Also in the 2010 Budget was the introduction of a tax incentive to encourage the introduction of ultra-low carbon cars and a delay in the introduction of fuel duty increases. The Budget preceded an announcement by the Department for Transport of further details of how £30m committed in the PBR will be spent to encourage low carbon transport. view more

Britain's plans to become a centre for the emerging low carbon automotive industry were boosted with the news this month that Nissan is to build the Leaf electric vehicle at its Sunderland Plant. Meanwhile, the Government has announced financial support for Ford's plans to invest £1.5bn to develop a new generation of clean, low carbon engines and vehicle technologies. view more
