Each year across the UK, three million women and children experience violence; and there are many more living with the legacies of past abuse. It can take many forms including:
• domestic violence
• rape and sexual violence
• sexual harassment
• female genital mutilation
• forced marriage
• crimes in the name of honour
• trafficking
• sexual exploitation
The Government is determined to prevent violence against women and girls happening or recurring, to protect and support its victims; and to bring offenders to justice.
Please note that, whilst across government this programme of work is referred to as ‘violence against women and girls’, in the context of the NHS, it is felt that it is more helpful and meaningful to refer to the needs of all children rather than girls specifically.
