The Staff Experience branch, previously known as NHS constitution workforce, is involved in wide ranging projects from embedding the NHS Constitution, to managing staff engagement research and the NHS Staff survey. Their focus is on staff experience because staff satisfaction, health and staff engagement are associated with clinical quality, safety and service efficiency. It is also known that staff satisfaction is related to patient satisfaction and there is a body of evidence to suggest that satisfied and engaged staff help organisations to be more efficient
The arguments could not be stronger in favour of understanding staff experience and these are set out in a compelling paper from the Department of Health, explaining why the NHS staff survey matters and provides a call for action from directors on provider and commissioning trust boards.
The annual national survey of NHS staff in England is co-ordinated by the Care Quality Commission and provides the most reliable source of national and local data on how staff feel about working in the NHS.
