The National Eisteddfod is the largest cultural festival in Europe.

The history of the Eisteddfod can be traced back to the 1100s, with many of the current traditions dating from the 1800s. In 1880 the National Eisteddfod Association was formed and was charged with the responsibility of staging the Eisteddfod every year in a different part of Wales. It receives funding of over £470,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government through the Welsh Language Board.

In 2010 the National Eisteddfod will be visiting Blaenau Gwent and the Heads of the Valleys between 31 July and 7 August.

More information can be found on the National Eisteddfod website.
