Housing and community

Welsh Assembly Government

Housing and community

Houses.

Housing and community regeneration is central to improving the lives of the people of Wales, particularly those from the most disadvantaged communities. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to live in a good quality home within a secure and safe community.

Locally based projects are in place to enhance community safety and regeneration and to reduce levels of crime, alcohol and drug abuse, and domestic violence. Very often local people themselves decide what is needed and are helped to make it happen. The Communities First programme is an example of this work in action.

We are working closely with partner organisations to provide good quality, affordable housing and develop communities where people will want to live now and in the future. These partnerships are vital to ensure we continue to meet the needs of the public and find solutions for the difficult social problems experienced in Wales today.

From here, you can access information on housing, community safety topics, and the work of Communities First. Details are also available of related regeneration activities, including Assembly Government community grants programmes and support for the voluntary sector.
