
The Food Standards Agency’s sat fat challenge
There are two main types of fat found in food – saturated and unsaturated. Cutting down on saturated fat can lower your blood cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease.
If you know which foods are high in saturated fat – and which are lower – then you can make choices each day to help reduce your intake of saturated fat. The Agency’s 21-Day Sat Fat Challenge is designed to help you do that.
The challenge shows that making small changes in what you eat can help you cut down on saturated fat. To do the challenge you can use an iPhone or iTouch, by downloading an app from the Apple Store (the link is over on the right), or you can use any web-enabled phone and go to our generic mobile site. You also need to be signed up to Twitter. Then each day choose your challenge from the 'Challenges' list. It can be a new one or one you've done before. Click on 'Choose this challenge' and that will be your day's challenge. When you've done it, click the 'I've completed this challenge' button and a message will be sent to Twitter announcing your success. If you've downloaded the app to an iPhone you will be taken to your camera to take a photo of what best represents the challenge. It will upload to Twitter. But if you miss a day, a message noting that goes to Twitter. If it's not going well, you can start the 21 days again by hitting 'Restart'. Even when you've completed your 21 days, you can always try and better your score!
