Other tests
In addition to providing testing for major species and sample types, VLA Scientific offers an expert service to private veterinary surgeons and other customers covering:
- Post mortem examinations
- Histopathology
- Abortion/stillborn
- Milk tests and antibodies
- Dermatology
Our specialist teams perform tests on farm animal samples submitted to VLA. Many of these tests are accredited to ISO 17025.
Samples should be sent direct to the designated VLA testing unit, details of which can be found in the Commercial Diagnostic Tests Price List.
This will help to maintain the quality of the sample and speed of reporting. Results will usually be returned via the nearest VLA Regional Laboratory where interpretation and follow-up support will be available if required.

VLA offers a full range of diagnostic tests for areas that include:
- Submissions not appropriate for UK disease surveillance purposes.
- Tests on samples from companion animals.
- Animals outside the UK at the time of sampling.
