How to beat the bug this summer
Thursday 20 May 2010
This year's Food Safety Week runs from the 7-13 June with a focus on preventing campylobacter food poisoning by highlighting the importance of proper cooking and avoiding cross contamination.
To help raise awareness the Food Standards Agency and safefood, in partnership with district councils throughout Northern Ireland, have produced a 'Beat the Bug Kit' which is packed full of tools to help community groups get involved and spread these important food safety messages. Groups are being encouraged to get involved by using tools within the pack to complement their own summer projects such as themed Barbeques, cookery demonstrations and quiz nights.
More than 1,000 kits will be sent to various groups in time for Food Safety Week but if you would like to participate and support Food Safety Week you can order your pack by contacting Anne McCann on 028 9083 2575 or email: anne.mccann@datamanagementdirect.com
The 'Beat the Bug Kit' contains:
- ideas for events in your area
- posters to promote Food Safety Week and your activities
- 'Beat the Bingo Bug' game
- food safety quiz
- 'Beat the Bug' colouring sheet and stickers for kids
