Heating and insulation improvements from the Warm Front Scheme

The Warm Front Scheme installs heating and insulation measures in your home. Currently the scheme is unable to accept new applications. This is a temporary measure. The scheme will accept applications again at a given date after 1 April 2011. Please read the information under 'Important update' for further details.

Important update: temporary refusal of applications to the Warm Front Scheme

The Warm Front scheme is funded by Government and has a set budget for this year.  Funding for this year has now been fully allocated due to high levels of demand for the scheme. As a result we are no longer able to accept new applications for the scheme in this financial year.

This is only a temporary measure. The scheme will accept new applications at a given date after 1 April 2011.  Further information will be posted on this site when available. We are unable to hold applications on file in this interim period. Please contact the Warm Front Scheme to reapply when the scheme is in a position to determine new applications, which will be at a given date after 1 April 2011.

All existing applications to Warm Front will be honoured and, as far as possible, works will be completed by the end of March 2011.  All existing installations will continue to be serviced for two years from installation through the aftercare service provided by Warmsure.

What is the Warm Front Scheme?

The Warm Front Scheme makes your home warmer, healthier and more energy efficient

The Warm Front Scheme installs insulation and heating measures up to the value of £3,500, or £6,000 where oil central heating or alternative low carbon technologies are recommended. Warm Front installs measures to make your home warmer, healthier and more energy efficient. It is for people on certain disability or income-related benefits. To be elegible you must own your home or rent it from a private landlord.

You can only apply for a grant from the Warm Front Scheme if you live in England. Other schemes are available in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (see ‘More useful links’).

The Warm Front Scheme is funded by the government and is managed by the company Eaga. You may have heard government announcements in October 2010 about the future funding for the Warm Front Scheme. The Scheme is still taking new applications and all existing applications will be processed and completed as normal.

How much do you get?

You may be eligible for heating and insulation improvements up to £3,500

Should you qualify, you will be eligible for heating and insulation measures up to the value of £3,500, or £6,000 where oil central heating and other alternative technologies are recommended.

If you have received a grant before, you may qualify for extra measures, depending on the measures you originally received.

You won’t have to pay anything as long as the work doesn’t cost more than the grant available. If the work is more than the grant, including previous grants, you may have to meet the difference. The Warm Front team will not start work without making sure you are able to pay the extra costs.

Rebate for over 60 year olds

If you are 60 or over, own or privately rent your home and do not qualify for the Warm Front Scheme, you may be eligible for a £300 rebate. This rebate is designed to help towards repairing or replacing an inoperable system or installing new central heating if your property currently doesn’t have any. The cost of work must be over £300 including VAT and is only available in England.

Warm Front home improvements

The Warm Front Scheme helps you with grants for the improvements shown below.

Loft insulation

Loft insulation makes your home warmer and more energy efficient. The Warm Front Scheme will fit two layers of insulation in your loft.

Draughtproofing

The Warm Front Scheme fits plastic strips to all windows and outside doors to keep the heat inside.

Cavity wall insulation

Cavity walls are made up of two layers: an outer and an inner brick wall. The Warm Front Scheme will fill the empty space between your cavity walls with insulation to keep your home warm.

Hot water tank insulation

Fitting insulation around your hot water tank keeps the water warm before you use it. The Warm Front Scheme checks the insulation around your hot water tank and fits a cover if necessary.

Gas, electric or oil heating

The Warm Front Scheme could install a new energy-efficient boiler and up to six radiators, including all valves and pipework. They may also repair your existing heating system.

Glass-fronted fire

The Warm Front Scheme can convert your solid-fuel open fire to a glass-fronted fire.

The Warm Front team approves all work before asking one of their registered contractors to carry it out. Any improvement work you arrange yourself will not be covered by Warm Front and you can't claim the costs through the Scheme.

How long does it take?

The Warm Front Scheme is very popular. Currently, insulation work takes about three months and heating work about six months.

Due to high demand and limited government budget some of the work may take longer to complete. If this is the case, the Warm Front team will write to you to keep you up to date on progress. The Scheme aims to complete work as quickly as possible.
