A consignment note must be completed to accompany hazardous waste when moved from any premises, including premises exempt from registration and movements between premises belonging to the same company. Exceptions are explained in consignment note below.
A hazardous waste consignment note is required even if the holder of the waste does not change, which differs from duty-of-care transfer note requirements.
New consignment notes and procedures
On 28 September 2011 amendments to the Hazardous Waste Regulations introduced changes to the consignment notes and procedures. Only the new consignment notes and procedures are valid for use from this date.
The main changes are that:
- There is now only one type of consignment note, which is used for both single and multiple consignments
- The multiple collection procedure has been changed and simplified, and
- A new declaration confirming compliance with the waste hierarchy has been added.
We have produced a revised guidance document which combines our previous guidance documents (HWR03A to HWR03F). New consignment notes can be downloaded from this page and paper copies can be ordered.
